UNITY OVER DIVISION: CHIEF DR. OZ UGWU CHARGES NDI NSUKKA/IGBO-EZE SOUTH TO RALLY BEHIND DR. HILARY ONYISHI (IKEMBA) AHEAD OF 2027; Diaspora-Based Physician, Development Advocate and NDC Chieftain Calls for a New Era of People-Centred Politics in the Constituency, By:CC.Oziokoja Ozioko

Nigerian-Canadian medical doctor, technocrat, international development advocate and NDC Chieftain, Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu, has issued a passionate appeal to good the people of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, urging them to rise above political differences, personal interests and partisan divisions ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a strongly worded statement, Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu called on Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South to rally behind Dr. Hilary Onyishi, popularly known as IKEMBA, the NDC candidate for the Federal House of Representatives,  describing the coming election as a defining moment for the constituency to reassess the quality of representation it desires and the calibre of leadership it wishes to entrust with its voice at the National Assembly.

Democracy, he noted, is strengthened when political differences are respected rather than weaponised. While citizens retain the democratic right to belong to different parties and support different candidates, he insisted that the shared interests of the people must always outweigh partisan considerations.

PUTTING PEOPLE ABOVE POLITICAL DIFFERENCES

Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu emphasised that Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South are bound by a common heritage, shared challenges and collective aspirations that transcend party lines, personal ambition and political affiliation.

He appealed directly to political leaders, traditional rulers, community heads, youths, women, professionals, entrepreneurs, religious leaders and other stakeholders across the constituency to embrace constructive political engagement  placing the development and wellbeing of the people above political disagreement.

Elections, he stressed, should not be reduced to contests of political loyalty or party identity. Rather, they should offer citizens a genuine opportunity to scrutinise the character, competence, experience, programmes, vision and commitment of every candidate seeking their mandate. For him, 2027 is another chance for Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South to have that honest conversation about the constituency's future.

Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu described Dr. Hilary Onyishi (IKEMBA) as a candidate who, in his assessment, represents a fresh direction in the political conversation of Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South. He pointed to the core pillars of IKEMBA's campaign  education, youth development, empowerment, infrastructure, economic opportunity, community engagement and stronger constituency representation  as issues that merit serious consideration by the electorate.

Effective representation, he argued, must go beyond occupying a seat in the National Assembly. A true representative maintains consistent contact with constituents, understands their concerns, articulates those concerns at the appropriate levels of government, and pursues practical initiatives that measurably improve people's lives.

He therefore urged Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South to carefully weigh the policies, programmes and leadership priorities of every candidate before casting their individual democratic choices.

THE FUTURE OF NSUKKA/IGBO-EZE SOUTH

According to Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu, the constituency's future demands a renewed sense of collective responsibility. He identified youth unemployment, educational opportunity, infrastructure, electricity, community development, economic empowerment, security and effective federal representation as pressing issues requiring sustained attention.

The people, he maintained, deserve a political culture in which elected representatives remain accessible and are consistently held to account for what they have achieved with their mandate. Leadership, he added, should be measured not by the acquisition of office, but by service, accessibility, accountability, responsiveness and tangible impact.

A MESSAGE TO THE YOUTHS AND THE NEXT GENERATION

Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu called on the youths of Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South to deepen their involvement in the democratic process  going beyond rallies, campaign activities and social media engagement to ask hard questions, study candidates' records, and demand accountability.

He urged young people to reject political violence, intimidation and bitterness, embracing instead a peaceful, issue-based and constructive approach to political participation, noting that today's decisions will shape the future the next generation inherits.

A CALL FOR UNITY, PEACE AND RESPONSIBLE POLITICS

Chief Dr. OZ Ugwu closed with an appeal for Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South to preserve peace and unity regardless of political affiliation. Political competition, he stressed, should never turn brothers and sisters into enemies or divide communities. Elections will come and go — but the people will continue to live together, raise families, build businesses and share the same communities long after the votes are counted.

He called on all stakeholders to approach the 2027 political season with maturity, tolerance, mutual respect and unwavering focus on the collective interest of Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South  urging the electorate to weigh every candidate on the basis of issues, programmes, capacity, character and experience.

"Political differences should never become a reason for division among our people. Let us respect one another, examine the choices before us, and place the collective interest of Ndi Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South at the heart of the 2027 democratic process."
