Dr. Hilary Onyishi (IKEMBA) has pledged to work towards transforming Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South into a thriving economic hub. As part of this vision, he has expressed his commitment to pursuing the development of an airport for the Nsukka area by leveraging his local and international connections.

Imagine what an airport could mean for our people. An airport is more than a place where planes take off and land it is a gateway to economic growth and opportunity. It creates jobs for pilots, engineers, technicians, cleaners, security personnel, drivers, caterers, baggage handlers, traders, and many others. Hundreds of families could earn a living through the businesses and services that grow around an airport.

Our farmers would benefit by transporting fresh vegetables, fruits, and other produce to markets across Nigeria more quickly, reducing spoilage and increasing their income. Traders would reach more customers, hotels would welcome more visitors, restaurants would serve more people, and small businesses would flourish. Even roadside vendors would enjoy increased patronage from travellers.

An airport would also attract investors, industries, conferences, and tourism. Nsukka would become more connected to the rest of Nigeria and the world. Visitors would come to experience our rich culture and beautiful natural attractions, while our brothers and sisters in the diaspora would find it easier to return home and invest in their communities.

Development often comes with challenges, but the sound of progress is better than the silence of neglect. Every aircraft that lands represents new opportunities, new businesses, and new hope for our people.

Where roads meet, markets grow. Where planes land, opportunities multiply. An airport does not only transport passengers it connects people to jobs, businesses, investment, and a brighter future.

That is why Nsukka deserves bold ideas and visionary leadership. Together, we can build a modern, prosperous, and globally connected Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South.
