DR. HILARY ONYISHI (IKEMBA) PLEDGES A STRONGER AND MORE COORDINATED SECURITY FRAMEWORK FOR NSUKKA/IGBO-EZE SOUTH, WITH PLANS TO SUPPORT AND EQUIP NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH STRUCTURES AND OTHER COMMUNITY SECURITY INITIATIVES WITH MODERN SECURITY TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Candidate for Nsukka/Igbo-Eze South Federal Constituency, Dr. Hilary Onyishi (IKEMBA), has promised to support better security and help protect lives and property across Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South, As part of his security plan, to promote the use of modern security equipment, including: Drones – for aerial monitoring and surveillance,CCTV Cameras – to monitor important locations, Body-Worn Cameras – to record security operations,Night-Vision Cameras – to monitor activities at night and Thermal Imaging Cameras – to detect people and objects in darkness or poor visibility, GPS Tracking Devices - to help monitor and coordinate authorized patrols.The goal is to help security agencies respond faster to security challenges, improve community safety, and protect lives and property across Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South, Dr. Hilary Onyishi (IKEMBA) disclosed this security agenda during a strategic meeting with international partners and experienced security experts in the United States, where he discussed modern strategies for strengthening security, surveillance, intelligence gathering, emergency response, and community protection across Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South.

Dr. Onyishi emphasized that 

security remains fundamental to sustainable development, economic growth, education, agriculture, and the general well-being of the people. He pledged that, if elected, he would use his position in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly to advocate for improved security measures and stronger collaboration between his international partners and statutory security agencies and community-based security structures.

As a prospective Federal Representative, Dr. Onyishi acknowledged that his constitutional role is not to command or independently operate security agencies, but to provide effective legislative representation, oversight, advocacy, and policy support aimed at strengthening national and local security.

Under this framework, Dr. Onyishi pledges to:

- Advocate for improved funding, modern equipment, training, and logistics for security agencies operating within the constituency.

- Support the strengthening of legitimate community-based security structures, including Neighborhood Watch groups, through appropriate government channels and in accordance with Nigerian law.

- Promote the provision of modern, lawful security and communication equipment to approved community security personnel, subject to the necessary government authorization and regulatory approval.

- Facilitate stronger intelligence-sharing and collaboration among traditional institutions, community leaders, Neighborhood Watch groups, the Nigeria Police Force, the Civil Defence Corps, and other relevant security agencies.

- Use his legislative platform to raise security concerns affecting Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South and demand appropriate government intervention.

- Advocate for increased police presence, improved patrol infrastructure, stronger emergency response capacity, and adequate deployment of security personnel to vulnerable communities.

- Support initiatives that address the root causes of insecurity, including youth unemployment, poverty, drug abuse, and limited economic opportunity.

- Promote community engagement and public awareness on crime prevention, responsible security reporting, and peaceful coexistence.

Dr. Onyishi further noted that effective security cannot be achieved through force alone, but requires responsible leadership, credible intelligence, community participation, modern technology, adequate institutional support, and unwavering respect for the rule of law.

His vision is to work within the constitutional powers of the National Assembly to ensure that the security concerns of Nsukka and Igbo-Eze South receive the attention they deserve at the federal level.
