The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has screened former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, ahead of its 2027 presidential primaries at the party’s national secretariat.


Speaking after the screening, which lasted over two hours, Obi dismissed claims that he was already the party’s consensus candidate, insisting the process remains open and democratic since multiple aspirants were allowed to purchase nomination forms.
He commended the NDC leadership for what he described as a transparent and credible screening exercise, stating that the party is “doing things properly” in line with democratic principles.
On speculation about possible rivals, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Obi said his focus is not on opponents but on national development and solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.
He outlined his vision for 2027, emphasizing a united, secure, and economically stable Nigeria built on inclusive governance and strict adherence to constitutional principles such as federal character.
Obi stressed the need to tackle insecurity, poverty, hunger, and corruption, arguing that public resources should be used for the benefit of ordinary Nigerians rather than a privileged few.
